Reviews, comparisons & tips for motorists

Are you going to buy an elegant sunny car Hyundai Solaris, but can not decide which looks better Hyundai Solaris sedan or hatchback? We will help you! Each of the body options has its fans, the choice depends on the needs and purposes for which you are purchasing a car.

Each type of Hyundai Solaris body has its own advantages

Determination of body types

It so happened that since the times of the USSR, a sedan-type body has been encountered most often, because a sedan has a trunk outside the car. A sedan is a car with a closed body. Many are of the opinion that a closed-body car has a more representative and solid appearance. A hatchback is understood as a body of a passenger car with a shorter rear end, with a trunk inside the car. There is no separation between the passenger compartment and the trunk. If the rear row seats are folded in the hatchback, then the luggage compartment volume increases significantly, and in this case it has an advantage over the sedan in terms of transporting oversized cargo.

Classic elegance or futurism

In 2011, with the release of the Solaris models to the Russian market by Hyundai, such common models as Hyundai Getz and the almost fresh Hyundai i20 were gradually replaced. This is not surprising, since Solaris outperforms these models in important ways such as:

  • cost;
  • reliability;
  • ergonomics;
  • external characteristics.

Initially, for some time Solaris was produced only in a classic car body sedan, a little later, six months later, his brother, a hatchback, entered the market. Outwardly, the cars look almost identical from the front, but when you look at them in profile, the difference is striking. The sedan is elegant and dynamic, the hatchback is more compact and wavy. The hatchback has a more interesting shape with taillights. Solaris manufacturers assumed that the sedan model could well act as the first and only car in the family, while the hatchback is more oriented as a second car, for example, for a wife.

Subject difference

If we consider the differences between a sedan and a hatchback in absolute numbers, then they will not seem so striking. The length of the sedan body is 4 meters and 37 cm, and the model with a body door is 4 meters 11 cm long.It should be noted that the space above the heads of the rear passengers in the classic Solaris car is 20 cm less than in its shortened version. The rest of the dimensions - the height and width of both cars are the same, as well as the ground clearance of 16 cm. This gives an advantage for the shortened model in urban conditions. If we consider the trunk, then with the passenger seats assembled, the hatchback's luggage compartment will have an impressive volume of 1345 liters. With the standard seating arrangement, the luggage compartment volumes will be respectively 370 liters and 454 liters for the sedan. For the rest of the indicators, the engine displacement and transmission of these models are the same. According to the drivers' reviews, it can be argued that a car with a sloping car body will behave more dynamically even under rather bad road conditions than its counterpart in a classic body. But it is worth recalling that neither one nor the other machine is designed to overcome difficulties off-road.

The agony of choice

The problem of choosing a car body becomes especially relevant when it comes to budget options. All other things being equal, a car in a shortened body will cost less than its classic counterpart for the simple reason that less metal was spent on its creation.

The traditional body version has the main advantage - it prevents cold air from entering the cabin when the rear tailgate is opened, unlike its shortened relative. The interior of such a car warms up much earlier, since there is no need to warm up the trunk. The model with a shortened rear is preferable when parking in reverse, the dimensions are perfectly felt, and the curb does not cling. Also on the positive side are the increased maneuverability on the road and the ability to transform the interior of the car by folding the passenger seats. An added bonus is the presence of a rear wiper.

Beauty or benefit

The problem of choosing the type of car body will be eliminated as soon as you clearly imagine what you need a car for, what functions it will have to perform. If you have a large family, a small child and you often need to transport bulky goods, like a stroller or a mother-in-law refrigerator, your choice is a hatchback. If you are used to carrying a lot of small loads in the trunk or you just want classic elegance - your choice is a sedan body.
