FAW T77 is a front-wheel drive five-door SUV of a compact class that combines a stylish design, a modern and practical interior, a moderately productive technical component and a good level of equipment ... The main target audience of an off-road vehicle are city dwellers who value comfort, efficiency and interior space in the "iron horse" ... who want a spectacular car, without any pretense of sportiness, but quite suitable for everyday use, and for traveling with the whole family.

In the serial guise of the FAW Besturn T77, it first appeared before the general public in November 2018 at the Guangzhou International Auto Show, but its conceptual forerunner called the T-Concept made its official debut back in April of the same year at the stands of the Beijing Motor Show.

The car not only put on a rather original design and "armed" with a modern 1.2-liter turbo engine, but also distinguished itself with a very interesting feature - "artificial intelligence", that is, an electronic assistant materializing in the form of a hologram on the front panel in the form of one of three characters to choose from ...

Outwardly, FAW Besturn T77 looks not only attractive, modern and energetic, but at the same time it is really quite peculiar, although in places it resembles some models of European brands.

The front of the five-door flaunts the piercing gaze of LED headlights, a concave hexagonal radiator grille and a "chopped" bumper, while from the rear it attracts attention due to elegant lanterns linked by a horizontal bridge, a multifaceted trunk lid and a simple bumper. On the side, the car "flaunts" balanced and dynamic proportions - a long sloping hood, a "floating" roof with falling contours, "resting" on a blackened C-pillar, mirrors "on legs", expressive sides and correct cutouts of wheel arches.

Dimensions and weight

The length of the FAW Besturn T77 is 4525 mm, of which the distance between the wheelsets extends by 2700 mm, and its width and height are 1845 mm and 1615 mm, respectively.

The curb weight of the compact crossover varies from 1455 to 1505 kg, depending on the version, and its ground clearance in this form is 176 mm.

Interior

Inside, the Chinese SUV seems to have a pretty, moderately solid and solid design, a bit of sportiness in which the three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a rim truncated in the lower part is extolled, but two large 12.3-inch screens under a single visor "parody" modern Mercedes: in front the driver displays “painted” gauges, while the right display houses infotainment functions.

And in the central part of the torpedo is the habitat of the already mentioned virtual (holographic) assistant.

In the interior of the car, mostly good-quality finishing materials are involved, and the workmanship here is at a normal level.

The FAW Besturn T77 salon is designed to accommodate the driver and four of his companions, and a sufficient supply of free space in this case is promised in both rows of seats. Ergonomic chairs with a well-defined side profile and a wide range of adjustments (including height) are installed in the front, while in the back there is a comfortably profiled sofa, an almost flat floor and a minimum amount of amenities (own ventilation deflectors and a folding center armrest).

The five-door cannot boast of impressive practicality - with five riders on board, its trunk can take only 342 liters of luggage. The second row of seats folds down in two asymmetrical sections, which more than doubles the volume of the load compartment.

In the niche under the raised floor there is a small 16-inch spare wheel and the main tool.

Specifications

The FAW Besturn T77 is powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with in-line architecture, turbocharger, direct injection system, 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing technology, generating 143 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 204 Nm of torque at 1600-4200 rpm.

Nominally, the engine works in conjunction with a 6-speed "manual" gearbox and drive wheels of the front axle, but as an option it is entitled to a 7-band "robot" with two clutches (but there can be no four-wheel drive here).

Design features

At the heart of the FAW Besturn T77 is a "front-wheel drive" platform with a monocoque body, a large proportion of which consists of high-strength steel grades. On the front axle of the five-door, an independent suspension of the MacPherson type is involved, and on the rear there is a semi-independent architecture with a torsion beam ("in a circle" - with anti-roll bars).

By default, the car is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism with an electric power steering, and disc brakes (ventilated at the front) are placed on all its wheels, supplemented by ABS, EBD and other electronics.

Options and prices

Most likely, in the fall of 2020, FAW Besturn T77 will reach the Russian market, while in the Celestial Empire it can already be purchased at a price of 89,800 to 134,800 yuan (this is about 0.8-1.22 million rubles).

In the "base" the car has: front and side airbags, full LED optics, 18-inch alloy wheels, ABS, EBD, ESP, virtual instrument cluster, multimedia system with an 8-inch screen, four power windows, cruise control, electric adjustments and heated mirrors, an audio system with six speakers, air conditioning and a number of other options.
