Mitsubishi L200 is an all-wheel drive pickup truck in the compact segment that boasts attractive design, good technical and operational characteristics and excellent off-road capabilities ... It is addressed primarily to men with a high level of annual income, who lead an active lifestyle and often travel off-road. or they just need a "multifunctional transport" ...

At the International Geneva Motor Show in March 2015, the Japanese company Mitsubishi held an official presentation of the L200 pickup truck of the next, fifth generation. True, it was possible to get acquainted with the car much earlier - in the fall of 2014, its “twin brother” under the name “Triton” was presented in Thailand.

As a result of the next reincarnation, the "truck" retained the same platform, but at the same time it became better in everything - from the appearance to the level of comfort.

In November 2018, an updated pickup made its debut in Thailand, which was fundamentally transformed on the outside, receiving a redrawn design in the corporate style of Dynamic Shield: the car was completely "redrawn" the front, "squared" wheel arches, reworked the outer panels of the cargo platform and installed new LED lights. However, the restyling was not limited to visual metamorphoses - the "Japanese" got a tweaked interior decoration, "armed" with new modern options, changed the 5-speed "automatic" to a 6-band, and also "tried on" other rear shock absorbers and more efficient front brakes.

The appearance of the 5th generation Mitsubishi L200 has retained the recognizable outlines of its predecessor, but has changed significantly. The car has a confident and expressive appearance with a curved "J" contour between the cab and the cargo compartment, rounded-square wheel arches and an upturned and pointed rear end.

At the available configurations look much more modest).

In Russia, the pickup is offered only in the expensive Double Cab version: it reaches 5280 mm in length, 1780 mm in height and 1815 mm in width. The gap between the axles of the "fifth L200" is 3000 mm, and the ground clearance at full load is at least 205 mm.

The "combat" weight of the vehicle varies from 1915 to 1930 kg, depending on the modification, and with a full load, the weight increases to 2850 kg.

The interior of the fifth generation Mitsubishi L200 looks nice and noble, successfully combining simplicity and luxury. A stylish multifunctional steering wheel, contrasting and informative instruments with a laconic design, an attractive front panel with a 7-inch "TV" and a dual-zone "climate" in the center - it seems that this is not a utilitarian pickup at all, but a prestigious SUV.

But in the initial versions of the equipment, the decoration turns out to be more ascetic - a steering wheel without control elements, an ordinary radio tape recorder and "twists" of the heating and ventilation system.

The interior of the Japanese pickup is trimmed with high-quality plastic, diluted in the "top" versions with silver inserts, glossy black surfaces and genuine leather. Ergonomic front seats are endowed with developed support on the sides and the necessary adjustment ranges, and on the second row there is a comfortable sofa with a 25-degree backrest tilt, a comfortable profile and a proper margin of space on all fronts.

The cargo platform of the "fifth" Mitsubishi L200 has the following dimensions: 1520 mm in length, 1470 mm in width and 475 mm in depth. As an option, a plastic cap on gas stops is installed on the car, and a full-size spare wheel is suspended under the bottom on all versions. On board the Japanese "truck" can take up to 915 kg of luggage.

For the Russian market, the “200th” is equipped with a 4N15 diesel engine with four in a row “pots”, Common Rail fuel injection, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt with a chain drive, which is available in two boost options:

  • On the "lower" modifications, the motor generates 154 horsepower at 3500 rpm and 380 Nm of limit torque in the range from 1500 to 2500 rpm.
  • On the "top" versions, the unit is supplemented by the MIVEC variable valve timing system, and its potential has been increased to 181 "horses" at 3500 rpm and 430 torque at 2500 rpm.

For a pickup, two gearboxes are offered to choose from - a 6-speed "mechanics" or a 5-band "automatic" manual mode (the restyled model will have an automatic transmission with six gears).

By default, the Japanese "truck" is endowed with a multi-mode EASY-SELECT 4WD transmission with a pair of cross-axle differentials (on the front and rear axles) and a two-stage "transfer case" - under normal conditions, the car is rear-wheel drive, and the front is activated forcibly. The "top" versions are equipped with a more advanced Super Select 4WD system with a symmetrical center differential, a reduction gear and four operating modes.

The maximum Mitsubishi L200 of the 5th generation is capable of developing 169-177 km / h, depending on the modification, on average consuming from 7.1 to 7.5 liters of diesel fuel in a combined driving mode. But how quickly the pickup does the exercise to recruit the first "hundred" is not officially disclosed.

As the test drive showed, the car is good off-road, and the geometric cross-country ability also deserves a certain merit: the angles of entry and exit are 30 and 24 degrees, respectively, and the ramp angle is 24 degrees.

The basis for the fifth generation Mitsubishi L200 is the modernized "bogie" of its predecessor with a powerful ladder-type frame at the base, and its body is predominantly cut from high-strength grades of steel. The car is equipped with independent double wishbone suspension at the front and a continuous axle with leaf springs at the rear. The steering of the "Japanese" is represented by a rack and pinion mechanism with hydraulic booster, and the braking system includes 16-inch ventilated discs on the front and 11.6-inch drum devices with pressure regulator on the rear wheels, which are supplemented by ABS, EBD and Brake Assist by default.

The restyled Mitsubishi L200 should appear on the Russian market in the first half of 2019, while the pre-reform car is sold in our country in five equipment options - DC Invite, DC Invite +, DC Intense, Intense and Instyle.

A basic vehicle with a 154-horsepower engine and a 6-speed manual transmission costs at least 1,919,000 rubles, and its functionality includes: EASY-SELECT 4WD transmission, front airbags, lifting assistance system, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, steel rims, on-board computer, audio system with four speakers, hydraulic power steering and other equipment.

A pickup with the same unit, but 5АКПП will cost from 2,348,000 rubles, and the "top" version with an 181-horsepower diesel engine cannot be bought cheaper than 2,552,000 rubles.

The latter is already equipped to the maximum - a separate "climate", a multimedia center with a 7-inch screen, side airbags, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, bi-xenon head light, leather interior, 17-inch alloy wheels, "music" with six speakers and the above equipment.
