The second generation Jeep Wrangler SUV with the factory designation TJ made its debut in the spring of 1996, after which it went on sale. Compared to its predecessor, the car has noticeably changed externally, internally and technically. "American" was mass-produced until the summer of 2006, after which it left the assembly line, and during the production period it was periodically modernized and received new versions.

The "second" Jeep Wrangler is a two-door compact SUV that was available in open and closed body styles.

The length of the car was 3883 mm, width - 1740 mm, height - 1782 mm, wheelbase - 2373 mm. The clearance under its bottom did not exceed 210 mm.

In addition, an extended version of the "American" was offered in a limited edition, the total length of which was 4343 mm, and the size of the base was 2630 mm. In the stowed state "Wrangler" of the 2nd generation weighed from 1403 to 1750 kg.

Specifications. The all-terrain vehicle was equipped with three atmospheric gasoline engines.

  • The basic version was a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which, depending on the specification, generated 143-147 horsepower and 215-224 Nm.
  • It was followed by a 2.5-liter "four" with a capacity of 118-120 "horses", producing 190-198 Nm of ultimate thrust.
  • The role of the "top-end" was performed by an in-line six-cylinder unit with a volume of 4.0 liters, in whose "bins" there were 178-193 forces and 290-319 Nm of torque.

Jeep Wrangler in this generation was equipped with a 5-speed "mechanics" or 3-speed "automatic" (in 2003 it was replaced by a 4-range automatic transmission), as well as a plug-in all-wheel drive with a Command-Trac transfer case.

The "second" Jeep Wrangler TJ was based on a powerful frame structure. The car "sported" a dependent suspension of the spring-link type on each of the axles with anti-roll bars. A powerful hydraulic power steering was responsible for facilitating control, and for braking - ventilated discs on the front and "drums" on the rear wheels in conjunction with anti-lock braking technology (ABS).

"Wrangler" of the 2nd generation is a stylish car with excellent off-road capabilities, strong and reliable design, powerful engines, good dynamic performance and unpretentiousness during operation and maintenance.
But it also has disadvantages - a spartan interior, stiff suspension, poor handling, high fuel consumption and high prices for spare parts.
