Are you planning to buy a car, but can't decide which body type to choose? Not sure which is better - a sedan or a hatchback? In our article you will find answers to all your questions regarding the advantages and disadvantages of these car options.

The video talks about the pros and cons of a sedan and a hatchback:

Most drivers in the old-fashioned way prefer the sedan, because they are already used to it. This type of car has long been considered a classic among our motorists. But the hatch is something new and different, and many people do not want to experiment. But in vain, because both the first and the second option have their pros and cons. Let's consider in more detail the features of each of them.

General information

The sedan is a closed-body passenger car... The interior of such a car has two or three rows of full-size seats. The luggage compartment is structurally separate from the passenger compartment, there is no lift door at the rear. Currently, these cars are the most common on our roads. Such models are considered presentable and solid. Their characteristic feature is the two-box body, which can be 2-door or 4-door.

The hatchback has a shortened rear overhang... The interior of such a car has one or two rows of seats, and in the rear wall there is a lifting door. The very name of such a car means “shortened”, since its overhang is smaller in size than that of other models. The body is single-volume, and its trunk is connected to the interior of the car (located behind the rear row of seats). The boot lid simultaneously acts as a door, when you open it, you can get into the car interior. These cars can be 3-door and 5-door.

How sedans differ from hatchbacks

"Sedan" type car body

The main difference between a sedan and a hatchback is the trunk. In the first case, it is separated from the passenger compartment, and in the second, vice versa. The trunk of the first type is larger and more spacious, while the hatch is characterized by compactness. There are also differences in appearance. The hatches have a modern sporty design, while the sedan cars have a more traditional look.

When in doubt about whether to choose a sedan or a hatchback, pay attention to the performance characteristics of the vehicles. The first option is good in that it relieves the driver and passengers of the cold air entering the cabin when the trunk is opened. The second is characterized by good handling and maneuverability. Therefore, to the question of which is safer - a sedan or a hatchback, one can give an unambiguous answer - a hatch. In addition, such a car has free access to the trunk. In order to get things out of it, there is no need to leave the car. Choose a car according to your needs.

Pros and cons of two body types

In order to determine the type of car, it is worth learning about all the advantages and disadvantages of each. Typically, a similar dilemma arises when buying an inexpensive car. Therefore, making your choice, you can also be guided by the criterion of cost. Closed cars are more expensive, so you can save money by opting for a shorter version. You may have a reasonable question - why is a sedan more expensive than a hatchback? In fact, everything is simple - since the second option is "shortened", less metal is spent on its creation.

Hatchback car body

Advantages of a closed body:

  • Absence of extraneous odors and noise in the cabin, since the trunk is disconnected;
  • At low air temperatures, the interior warms up faster, since there is no need to additionally warm up the trunk;
  • The car has an optimal weight distribution.

It is worth noting that the trunk adds both advantages and disadvantages to it. It is spacious, but the possibilities of its transformation are minimal. In addition, it is inferior to the hatch trunk in terms of ease of loading. For example, in a car with a closed body, it is very difficult to transport a washing machine or TV.

Short body benefits

For some reason, hatches are associated with a woman's car. But such a car has a lot of advantages that any male driver will like. Among them:

  • The possibility of transforming the salon;
  • Convenience of loading things into the trunk;
  • High maneuverability (the wheels are located at the edges of the car, so the driver “feels” the dimensions of the car well when driving);
  • Shortened rear overhang (prevents curb clinging when parking the car in reverse).

Of the shortcomings, we note the shelf located behind the seats. If it is empty, then it rattles while driving. In addition, there is no soundproofing of the luggage compartment.

If you still can't decide on the type of car, think about your needs. You need to understand what you are going to use the machine for. In accordance with this, and make your choice. For example, if you have a child and need to transport a stroller or a child's bike, you'd better give preference to a hatch. If you carry a lot of little things in the trunk, the best option would be a car with a closed body.
